오늘의 알아볼 표현은 동료 간에 쓸 수 있는 재밌는 영어 표현이에요.

상사의 잔소리가 너무 심하다는 표현을 하고 싶을 때 ‘Get (Be) On One’s Case’를 쓸 수 있습니다. "~에 대해 잔소리하다, ~에 대해 간섭하다"라는 뜻이며,  반대로 Get Off One’s Case는 ‘간섭하지 마’ ,’ 잔소리 그만해’라는 뜻입니다.

어원

Case의 의미에는 personal matter/situation(개인적인 문제/상황)이라는 뜻이 있습니다. 그래서 Get On (~을 계속하다) 과 같이 쓰이게 된다면 ‘계속 개인적인 문제에 대해 지속적으로 간섭하다’ 즉 ‘잔소리하다’라는 뜻이 됩니다.
