오늘 알아볼 영어 표현은 Address an Issue입니다.

 

의미

‘실수하다’라는 뜻을 표현할 때 mistake를 쓸 수도 있지만 영어단어 oversight을 사용해 좀 더 공손한 느낌을 전달할 수 있습니다. 영어 단어 Oversight은 ‘관리’ ‘감독’이라는 뜻 이외에, ‘간과’ ‘부주의’라는 뜻으로도 자주 쓰이는데요. 문장 끝에 on somebody’s part를 붙여 ‘누군가의 실수’였다고 강조할 수 있습니다.

 

 

어원

영어 단어 Address는 라틴어 “Ad (~로)”와 “Directus (똑바로)”의 합성어에서 유래가 되었습니다.

의미는  ‘~을 똑바르게 만들다’라는 뜻으로, 오늘날의 ‘문제를 해결하다’와 어느 정도 일맥상통한 부분이 있어요.
